Former U.S. President Donald Trump has indicated he is open to negotiations with Iran's remaining leadership as hostilities intensify across the Middle East. His remarks come amid escalating airstrikes and retaliatory missile attacks that have deepened instability throughout the region and shaken global markets.

The conflict dramatically escalated following the killing of Iran's Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, in coordinated U.S.-Israeli airstrikes reportedly aimed at destabilizing the Islamic Republic's leadership. Heavy bombardments across Iranian cities were followed by missile counterattacks targeting Israeli territory, widening the confrontation beyond initial expectations.

By Monday, violence had spread into Lebanon after Israel struck positions linked to Hezbollah, which had launched drones and missiles toward northern Israel in retaliation. Meanwhile, senior Iranian official Ali Larijani rejected claims that Tehran was seeking talks with Washington, insisting that Iran would not negotiate under attack.

Iran's ambassador to the United Nations, Amir-Saeid Iravani, told an emergency Security Council meeting that hundreds of civilians had been killed or injured in what he described as deliberate strikes on residential neighborhoods. Iranian state media also reported devastating casualties, including dozens of children in a bombing in the southern city of Minab.

Reports from U.S. and Israeli media suggested that intelligence operations had closely tracked Khamenei for months prior to the strike. According to coverage by The New York Times, U.S. intelligence allegedly alerted Israel to a high-level meeting in Tehran, enabling a rapid and deadly assault that reportedly eliminated multiple senior Iranian officials within seconds.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed to intensify military operations, while Trump claimed dozens of Iranian leaders had been killed and several naval assets destroyed. Iranian missile strikes have also caused casualties in Israel, while U.S. forces confirmed their first losses of the conflict. Airports in Gulf states hosting American bases were damaged, and disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz sent oil prices surging as global shipping routes were suspended.

Despite the devastation, Trump maintained he was willing to engage Iran's newly appointed leadership in dialogue, arguing that earlier concessions could have prevented war. Iranian officials, however, warned of severe retaliation and insisted the regime would remain resolute. As bombings continue, ordinary Iranians describe a mixture of fear and cautious hope, uncertain whether the violence will bring political transformation or further tragedy.
