Kano Hisbah Arrests Cross-Dressing Teenagers Over Planned Gay Party

The Kano State Hisbah Board has arrested two teenage boys for allegedly planning to organize a gay birthday party during the upcoming Eid al‑Fitr celebration in Kano, Nigeria. The teenagers, Umar Yahaya and Musa Al-Hassan, were reportedly dressing like women and inviting people online to attend the event.

The Deputy Commander General of the board, Mujahideen Aminudeen, confirmed the arrest in a statement released on Tuesday, March 10, 2026. According to him, the teenagers used social media platforms to invite friends and other people from different parts of the country to attend the planned birthday party after the Eid prayer.

Aminudeen explained that the boys, aged 19 and 18, allegedly identified themselves as Yan Daudu, a local term sometimes used for men who act or dress like women. He said they planned to gather people after the Eid prayer for a birthday celebration that would involve dancing and activities considered inappropriate by local authorities.

He expressed concern that such behaviour among young people could damage the spiritual benefits Muslims gain during the holy month of Ramadan. The Hisbah official also warned that the board has directed its commanders to take firm action against individuals found engaging in immoral acts.

However, the teenagers reportedly apologised to the authorities and expressed regret for their actions. Aminudeen said that after speaking with them, officials discovered that the boys lacked proper understanding of Islam and did not fully understand the consequences of their behaviour.

Instead of sending them to prison, the Hisbah Board decided to keep the teenagers under supervision so they can receive religious guidance and education. The board also announced that its officers will monitor mosques during the final days of Ramadan, especially during night prayers, to ensure safety and prevent inappropriate gatherings.
