Nigeria's Defence Minister, Christopher Musa, has said that terrorist groups often increase their attacks during the holy month of Ramadan. According to him, many extremists wrongly believe that if they die while fighting during Ramadan, they will automatically enter heaven. This belief, he explained, pushes them to carry out more violent actions during the fasting period.

The minister made this statement after attending a closed-door security meeting with Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. The meeting lasted for almost two hours and included top Nigerian security chiefs who gathered to discuss the growing security challenges in the country.

During his discussion with journalists after the meeting, Musa said that terrorist groups like Boko Haram usually step up their attacks during Ramadan. He explained that these fighters think dying in battle during the holy month will bring them spiritual rewards, which motivates them to carry out more operations.

The minister also noted that this dangerous belief encourages extremists to commit serious crimes without fear. According to him, they see death during this period as something honorable, which makes them more willing to attack communities, security forces, and innocent civilians.

Because of this pattern, the Nigerian military and other security agencies have started adjusting their strategies. Musa said the government is closely monitoring terrorist movements and strengthening operations to prevent attacks, especially in areas that are often targeted during the Ramadan period.

Many of the recent attacks have been reported in the North-East region of Nigeria, where insurgent groups have been active for many years. The government says it remains committed to improving security and protecting citizens from terrorism while continuing efforts to defeat extremist groups operating in the country.
