Football around the world is changing in simple ways to support Muslim players during Ramadan. In 2026, the fasting period started around mid-February, and many leagues and clubs made new arrangements. Since Muslim players do not eat or drink from dawn to sunset, teams are helping them stay strong and perform well during matches and training.

In Premier League and English Football League, officials have brought back short match pauses. These breaks allow fasting players to quickly drink water or take energy gels. The pauses are planned ahead and usually happen during natural stops in the game, like a throw-in or goal-kick, so the match is not disrupted.

In Spain, FC Barcelona is giving special support to young star Lamine Yamal, who is fasting. The coach Hansi Flick said the club carefully monitors his daily routine. This includes his sleep, rest time, and a special food plan to help him stay fit during a busy match schedule.

This support is already showing results. Lamine Yamal recently scored three goals in one match against Villarreal CF, helping his team win 4–1. His performance proves that with the right care and planning, fasting players can still perform at a very high level.

In Australia, Professional Footballers Australia has worked with the A-Leagues to allow similar breaks during matches. Player Aziz Behich said this shows real respect for players' religious beliefs. Many clubs are also helping by preparing halal meals and adjusting meal times, especially during away games.

However, fasting can still be very difficult in some places. In a match involving CS Sfaxien and AS Gabès played under hot weather, some players became very weak due to fasting. This has made fans and experts call for better scheduling, such as playing matches in the evening and using cooling methods like cold towels to protect players' health.
