Suspected Terrorists Attack Kwara Church During Sunday Service, Kidnap Nine

Suspected terrorists attacked a church in Oro-Ago community, Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State on Sunday, abducting nine worshippers during service. The incident happened while Christians were gathered for worship, causing panic as armed men suddenly stormed the church and carried out the attack. Many residents and worshippers ran for safety as the gunmen took control of the area.

According to sources in the community, the attackers were heavily armed and carried out the operation quickly without resistance. A local source confirmed that nine people were kidnapped and taken away to an unknown location. The sudden attack created fear among residents who said they had never witnessed such a violent incident in the community before.

Residents believe the attackers may be bandits operating in parts of the region. They forcefully took the victims and escaped before security operatives could respond. Community members said the incident has left many families worried about the safety of their loved ones and the general security situation in the area.

The attack has increased tension in Oro-Ago and surrounding communities, as people now fear further attacks. Many residents have called on security agencies to act quickly and rescue the kidnapped worshippers. Security agencies had earlier received intelligence reports about possible terrorist attacks in Kwara South Senatorial District, including Ifelodun, Irepodun, and Isin Local Government Areas. The suspected attackers were reportedly planning coordinated attacks between March 23 and March 28, 2026, which led to security operatives being placed on high alert in the affected areas.

The Coordinator of Joint Security Watch, Elder Olaitan Oyin-Zubair, urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements to security agencies. Authorities, including the Kwara State Police Command and local government officials, have been informed about the threat and are expected to intensify security efforts to prevent further attacks and ensure the safe return of the kidnapped victims.
