The United States successfully rescued a stranded airman who was trapped in Iran's mountains after his fighter jet was shot down. The incident happened when a US Air Force F-15 aircraft was attacked by Iranian forces in the southeast of Iran. One of the aircrew members was rescued quickly, but the second airman remained trapped in a dangerous mountain crevice for about 36 hours before help arrived. US President Donald Trump later confirmed the successful rescue operation in a public statement.

The rescue was made possible through a secret intelligence operation led by the CIA. US intelligence officers spread false information inside Iran, making Iranian forces believe that the missing airman had already been found and was being moved to safety. This deception confused Iranian military teams and slowed their search efforts, giving US forces enough time to locate the stranded airman and plan a safe rescue mission.

While Iranian forces were distracted by the misinformation, US intelligence teams worked quietly to find the exact location of the airman. Officials described the situation as searching for a needle in a haystack because the airman was hidden deep inside a mountain area and could not be easily detected. Using advanced intelligence and surveillance, US special forces were able to identify his position and prepare for extraction.

The rescue mission involved hundreds of special forces troops, helicopters, and warplanes. US military teams were deployed on the ground for two days while Iranian Revolutionary Guard forces were also searching for the airman. To stop Iranian troops from reaching the location, US Air Force jets reportedly carried out defensive strikes to protect the rescue team and ensure the airman could be safely evacuated.

As US forces moved in to extract the airman, a brief firefight reportedly broke out with Iranian forces near the area. Military officials later described the operation as one of the most complex rescue missions in US special operations history. Reports also suggested that Israeli intelligence helped by providing information, although claims that Israeli commandos took part in the mission were denied by Israeli military sources.

During the operation, US forces temporarily used special MC-130J aircraft to support the mission, but two of the planes became stuck and had to be destroyed before leaving the area. After the rescue was completed, Iranian forces found the remains of the aircraft and claimed they had shot them down, which US officials said was false. In the end, the stranded airman was successfully rescued and taken to safety after a risky and carefully planned military operation.
