China has expressed its willingness to continue cooperating with Russia at the UN Security Council to help ease tensions in the Middle East. Foreign Minister Wang Yi spoke to his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov on Sunday, emphasizing China's efforts to cool down the situation and promote dialogue between the countries involved.

Wang highlighted that the key to solving navigation and security issues in the Strait of Hormuz is achieving a ceasefire as quickly as possible. He stressed that China has consistently supported resolving regional conflicts through political negotiation and peaceful dialogue rather than military action.

The conversation between the foreign ministers comes ahead of a UN Security Council vote next week on a Bahraini resolution aimed at protecting commercial shipping around the Strait of Hormuz. China and Russia, as permanent members of the Council, were urged to take an objective and balanced approach to gain broader international support for stability measures.

According to a statement from the Russian Foreign Ministry, both sides discussed ways to reach a rapid ceasefire and launch political-diplomatic dialogue. They expressed satisfaction over their shared approaches to global issues, including Iran, and criticized what they described as unprovoked aggression by the US and Israel against the country.

China has repeatedly called for an end to fighting in the Gulf region and the wider Middle East. The ongoing conflict has lasted more than a month and has significantly disrupted commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital route for oil and gas transport globally.

Both countries emphasized that political and diplomatic measures are essential to prevent further escalation. China's engagement with Russia reflects its broader strategy of promoting dialogue, maintaining regional stability, and safeguarding international trade routes in critical maritime areas.
