Major international media organizations have called on Israel to remove its ban preventing foreign journalists from entering Gaza independently. Since the war began in 2023, Israel has kept most foreign reporters out of the territory, making it difficult for the world to get direct and balanced information about what is happening on the ground.

Top media companies including The Associated Press, BBC, CNN, Reuters, and The Washington Post signed a joint statement asking Israel to allow independent reporting from Gaza. They explained that journalists need to be physically present to verify official claims, speak directly with civilians, and report what they personally witness.

The editors questioned Israel's reasons for continuing the restriction. At first, Israel said foreign journalists could reveal the positions of its soldiers and create security risks. Another reason given was that Gaza was too dangerous because of the ongoing fighting. However, media leaders say the heaviest fighting has ended, a ceasefire has been in place for more than six months, and aid workers are already allowed to enter and leave.

Although the Israeli army has sometimes taken foreign reporters into Gaza on limited and controlled visits, news organizations say this is not enough. They want full independent access without military control so journalists can report fairly and freely. They also pointed out that hostages have returned home, and reporters should not be seen as threats to military operations.

Because foreign reporters are mostly banned, local Palestinian journalists have carried the burden of covering the war. Many of them have reported while facing extreme personal suffering, including losing family members, homes, and even struggling to find food. News agencies like AFP, AP, and Reuters have previously raised serious concerns about the safety and survival of their journalists working inside Gaza.

More than 200 journalists and media workers have reportedly been killed during the conflict, according to the Committee to Protect Journalists. Media leaders say press freedom is a basic right in every open society and are urging Israel to end the restrictions immediately. Their message is clear: journalists must be allowed into Gaza to report the truth directly from the scene.
