Hon Iyepe Finalises Smooth Hajj Plans For 340 Pilgrims

Renowned Islamic scholar and former Chairman of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation, Abdulhakeem AbdulLateef, has confirmed that preparations for the 2026 Hajj exercise are fully in place for 340 pilgrims under his organisation. The group includes about 90 pilgrims coming from different countries abroad. He explained that the preparations covered accommodation, transportation, medical care, spiritual guidance, and general welfare to make the pilgrimage easier and more organized for everyone involved.

Speaking during an interview with Muslim News, Hon Iyepe said the preparation started several months ago with proper Islamic training for all intending pilgrims. According to him, the organisation conducted a five-month educational programme where pilgrims were taught Hajj rites, Islamic teachings, discipline, and practical behavior during the pilgrimage. He added that an examination was conducted on May 3, 2026, and all participants passed successfully without any failure.

He also disclosed that all pilgrims have completed their medical tests ahead of the journey, while vaccination will be administered by the Port Health Authority before departure. To ensure effective coordination, the 340 pilgrims were divided into smaller groups with leaders assigned to monitor welfare, communication, and movement. Committees and volunteers were also arranged to handle health support, transportation, accommodation, and religious guidance throughout the Hajj exercise.

Hon AbdulLateef further confirmed that all visas and flight tickets for the pilgrims are already ready. The airlift operation is scheduled to begin on May 11, 2026, using airlines including Qatar Airways, Egypt Air, and Emirates Airline. He explained that different batches of pilgrims would depart on separate dates to ensure smooth movement and proper coordination. He added that the 90 pilgrims from the diaspora would later join the group in Madinah.

The former Lagos State Amirul Hajj explained that private Hajj operators were given limited allocation slots this year, making partnerships necessary. According to him, his organisation collaborated with licensed tour operators to accommodate all registered pilgrims in line with regulations from the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria and Saudi authorities. He also expressed support for Saudi Arabia's "No Hajj Without Permit" policy, saying it helps to prevent overcrowding and improve safety during pilgrimage activities.

Hon Iyepe described the responsibility of managing 340 pilgrims as a serious task and a test from Allah, although he noted that he had previously coordinated more than 4,000 pilgrims during his time as Amirul Hajj for Lagos State. He urged pilgrims and officials to fear Allah, remain disciplined, and serve others sincerely. He also prayed for Allah to make the 2026 Hajj peaceful, successful, and spiritually rewarding for all Muslims participating in the sacred journey.
