Sultan Demands Justice Over Benue MACBAN Chairman Killing Investigation

The Sultan of Sokoto has called for a full and transparent investigation into the killing of the Benue State Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Alhaji Ardo Risku. He said everyone involved in the attack should be identified and punished according to the law.

In a statement issued through the National President of MACBAN, Baba Othman Ngelzarma, the Sultan expressed deep sadness over the death of the late chairman. He also extended his condolences to Risku's family, members of the association across Nigeria, and the people and government of Benue State.

The Sultan described the late Ardo Risku as a respected leader who worked hard to promote peace and understanding between herders and farming communities. He said the deceased was known for encouraging dialogue, reconciliation, and peaceful coexistence among different groups in Benue State.

While praising the Benue State Government and security agencies for quickly arresting suspects linked to the killing, the Sultan stressed that arrests alone are not enough. He urged the authorities to carry out a fair, thorough, and impartial investigation and ensure that everyone found guilty faces justice.

The monarch also appealed to residents of Benue State and Nigerians to remain calm and avoid any form of revenge while investigations continue. He warned that no grievance should lead to more violence, adding that lasting peace can only be achieved when justice is carried out through lawful institutions.

Alhaji Ardo Risku was reportedly killed on June 26, 2026, in an ambush at Okudu village in Otukpo Local Government Area after attending a peace meeting in Ohinmini. His associate, Yakubu Isah, also lost his life in the attack. Police have confirmed the arrest of 10 suspects as investigations into the incident continue.
