Afghanistan has announced that 55 civilians have lost their lives following intense border clashes with Pakistan. The fighting, which reportedly began after retaliatory military operations along the frontier, has further heightened tensions between the two neighboring countries.

According to Afghan officials, the casualties include women and children. Government spokesperson Hamdullah Fitrat stated that the deaths occurred over several days of violence that started on Thursday. In addition to those killed, at least 69 civilians were reported injured during the confrontations.

Fitrat also revealed that multiple civilian homes were destroyed amid the exchanges. The damage has reportedly affected residential areas, worsening the humanitarian situation in the impacted regions.

The Afghan government confirmed that the casualties were recorded across several provinces, including Paktika, Khost, Kunar, Nangarhar, and Kandahar. These areas lie close to the volatile border zone, which has long experienced security challenges.

On the other hand, Pakistan has rejected claims that civilians were deliberately targeted. Officials in Islamabad described the military operations as acts of self-defense in response to cross-border threats.

Pakistan's Information Minister, Attaullah Tarar, stated that the country's forces had eliminated 415 Afghan Taliban fighters and suspected militants since Thursday. He added that more than 580 others were injured in air strikes and ground clashes.

The conflicting accounts from Kabul and Islamabad highlight the deepening dispute between the two sides. While Afghanistan emphasizes civilian casualties and destruction, Pakistan maintains that its actions were aimed solely at militant elements, underscoring the continuing strain in relations between the neighboring states.
