In a speech broadcast on national television, he said the Iranian people will not give in to pressure or threats from their enemies.
According to Pezeshkian, those demanding the unconditional surrender of Iran are chasing an impossible dream. He said such hopes will never come true and insisted that Iran will continue to defend its independence and national pride despite the growing tension in the region.
The conflict started after Israel and the United States launched military strikes on Iran on February 28. The attacks reportedly killed Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and triggered a wider regional crisis that has raised fears of a larger war.
Following the strikes, Iran responded with missile and drone attacks targeting Israeli and American interests across the Middle East, especially in several Gulf countries. These actions have increased tensions and made the situation in the region more dangerous.
After the death of Khamenei, Iran formed an interim leadership council to manage the country during the crisis. President Pezeshkian is one of the three members of this temporary leadership body responsible for guiding Iran through the conflict.
Despite the growing tensions, Iran's leadership has said it will avoid attacking neighbouring countries unless they attack Iran first. The council has also expressed regret to nearby states and assured them that Iran does not intend to expand the conflict beyond those directly involved.
