The ambassador made it clear that Iran is an independent nation and will decide its leadership without any foreign interference.
Speaking during a press conference in Abuja, Raja said the United States has a long history of interfering in the internal affairs of other countries. He stressed that Iran will never allow any country, including the U.S., to decide its political future. According to him, the Iranian people alone have the right to choose their leaders and determine the direction of their country.
Trump had earlier reacted to the situation by encouraging Iranians to take control of their country and leadership. During a meeting at the White House with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Trump claimed that several individuals who could have taken military leadership roles in Iran were killed during waves of attacks carried out by the United States and Israel. He also suggested that he should have a role in deciding Iran's next leader.
The Iranian ambassador rejected those statements, insisting that leadership decisions belong only to the Iranian people. He explained that Iran's government will always act based on the interests of its citizens and will not allow external powers to influence its political system.
Raja also addressed concerns about Nigerians living in Iran, assuring that they remain safe despite rising tensions in the region. He said Nigerians currently living in cities like Tehran and Qom have not been harmed. According to him, Iran continues to maintain a friendly relationship with Nigeria, with diplomatic ties that have lasted for more than 55 years.
The ambassador further criticised attacks carried out by the United States and Israel, describing them as violations of international law and the United Nations Charter. He argued that Iran has not started any war in more than 200 years but has often been the victim of aggression. While emphasizing that Iran prefers peace and stability in the region, he stated that the country will defend itself and protect its sovereignty whenever necessary.
