The unfortunate event happened while people gathered to receive relief items meant to support residents during the holy fasting period.
The palliative distribution programme was organised by Alhassan Ado Doguwa, a member representing the Doguwa/Tudun Wada constituency in the House of Representatives. The initiative was intended to assist community members with food and other essential items to ease their hardships during Ramadan and the upcoming Sallah celebration.
According to reports, the situation turned violent when some hoodlums allegedly attempted to disrupt the distribution process. Their actions created chaos among the crowd and eventually led to a confrontation that resulted in the death of the security officer who was on duty to maintain order.
The identity of the slain officer has not yet been officially disclosed. Authorities are expected to begin investigations to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and identify those responsible for the attack.
In a public statement, Doguwa expressed deep shock and sadness over the tragic development. He condemned the actions of the hoodlums and described the incident as a painful loss, especially during a sacred period when acts of charity and compassion are encouraged.
The lawmaker also extended his heartfelt condolences to the leadership of the Civil Defence Corps, the family of the deceased officer, and the residents of Tudun Wada who were affected by the unfortunate incident.
He concluded his statement by praying for the deceased officer, saying, "May Allah grant him mercy and forgiveness," while urging the community to remain calm and allow authorities to handle the situation.
