The video circulated widely on social media and quickly attracted public attention and debate regarding the fairness of the palliative distribution programme.
In the video, Usman claimed that he received only one mudu of rice and one mudu of maize as part of the Ramadan support package distributed to staff under the Dandi Local Government Education Authority. A mudu is a common local bowl used for measuring grains in many Nigerian markets.
His statement sparked reactions online, with many people questioning the adequacy of the items distributed to government workers during the holy month of Ramadan. Some social media users also criticized the authorities, suggesting that the support meant to assist workers during the fasting period was insufficient.
However, the Kebbi State Government described the teacher's claim as misleading. In an official statement issued on Sunday, the Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy to the state governor, Abdullahi Idris, clarified that the grains distributed through the programme were rice and millet, not maize as the teacher stated in the viral video.
According to the adviser, the palliative supplies meant for Dandi Local Government Area had not yet arrived at the council headquarters when the video was recorded. He explained that the distribution process was still ongoing and suggested that the teacher's claims did not accurately reflect the situation.
The government further alleged that the individual in the video might have been influenced for political reasons. Idris also claimed that the man featured in the video is a psychiatric patient, implying that his statements should not be taken as a reliable representation of the government's palliative programme.
Meanwhile, the Dandi Local Government Education Authority has lifted the suspension previously placed on Abduljalal Usman. Authorities said the decision was taken pending the conclusion of an official investigation into the incident and the circumstances surrounding the viral video.
