The statement "Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah" (Shahadah) means a Muslim must firmly believe in the heart and declare with the tongue that Prophet Muhammad ﷺ is Allah's final Messenger. He is Muhammad ibn Abdullah from the Quraysh tribe, and his message was sent to all mankind and the jinn.

Allah confirms this in the Qur'an that the Prophet was sent as a messenger to all people, guiding them to worship Allah alone. He delivered the final revelation, the Qur'an, and called humanity away from disbelief into faith, obedience, and righteousness. This message is the foundation of Islam and the second part of the Shahadah.

To fulfill this testimony, a Muslim must believe everything the Prophet ﷺ informed us of, obey his commands, avoid what he forbade, and worship Allah only in the way he taught. Following his Sunnah is part of complete submission to Allah and a condition for correct belief.

Islam also clearly teaches that Prophet Muhammad ﷺ is only a human servant and messenger of Allah. He does not control creation, does not know the unseen by himself, and cannot bring benefit or harm except by Allah's permission. This prevents Muslims from exaggerating his status or worshipping him.

The Qur'an repeatedly emphasizes this truth. The Prophet is commanded to declare that he does not possess the treasures of Allah or knowledge of the unseen, and that he only follows revelation sent to him. This protects pure monotheism (Tawheed) and keeps worship directed only to Allah.

In summary, the Shahadah means worshipping Allah alone without partners and believing in Muhammad ﷺ as His final Messenger who must be honored and followed but never worshipped.
