The rooftop and outdoor courtyards of the Prophet's Mosque are covered with about 117,000 square meters of white Thassos marble. This special marble is one of the most important architectural features of the mosque and plays a major role in keeping the environment comfortable for worshippers.

According to the Saudi General Authority for the Two Holy Mosques, the marble helps create a cooler atmosphere throughout the mosque complex. Worshippers can benefit from its cooling effect whether they are praying inside the mosque, on the rooftop, or in the large outdoor courtyards.

White Thassos marble is widely known for its bright white appearance and exceptional quality. Its ability to reflect a large amount of sunlight helps prevent excessive heat from building up on the surface during hot weather conditions.

Visitors often experience a noticeable cooling sensation beneath their feet while walking or performing prayers. This makes the marble especially valuable during periods of high temperatures when large numbers of pilgrims and visitors gather at the mosque.

The use of this marble reflects the Kingdom's commitment to providing a comfortable and welcoming environment for pilgrims, visitors, and Umrah performers. It is part of ongoing efforts to improve facilities and services at Islam's holiest sites.

To maintain its effectiveness, the marble is regularly polished, cleaned, and sanitized using safe and environmentally friendly materials. These maintenance procedures help preserve its brightness, cleanliness, and cooling properties, ensuring that it remains in excellent condition for worshippers throughout the year.
