Israel has agreed to withdraw its troops from two areas in southern Lebanon under a new agreement reached after four days of talks in Washington. The deal was announced by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who said the withdrawal is part of efforts to reduce tensions between both countries.

The agreement was reached through discussions involving Israel, Lebanon, and the United States. According to Israeli officials, the three sides hope this first step will lead to future agreements and eventually support a broader peace process between the neighboring countries.

Lebanon's Ambassador to the United States, Nada Hamadeh Moawad, welcomed the agreement. She described it as an important first step toward restoring Lebanon's full sovereignty and protecting its territorial integrity.

Prime Minister Netanyahu explained that Israeli forces will leave two locations, one north of the Litani River and another south of it. He said these were positions that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) no longer needed to maintain inside Lebanon.

The United States hosted the latest round of negotiations as part of its efforts to improve relations between Israel and Lebanon, two countries that have never had formal diplomatic ties. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the agreement marks "the beginning of the beginning," while noting that many challenges still remain.

Under the agreement, the Lebanese Armed Forces will take control of the areas vacated by Israeli troops as part of a pilot program linked to the recent ceasefire. Officials hope this move will help strengthen stability along the border and build confidence for future peace negotiations.
