Voluntary prayers hold a special place in Islam, especially during the blessed month of Ramadan. Among them is Salat al-Duha, which is performed about fifteen minutes after sunrise and can be prayed as two to eight rak'ahs. The Prophet ﷺ said: "In the morning, charity is due from every joint bone of the body of every one of you... To perform two rak'ahs of Duha prayer is charity." — Sahih Muslim. This highlights how even a small voluntary act can carry the reward of charity.

Another highly emphasized prayer in Ramadan is Tarawih, performed after 'Isha behind the Imam. The Prophet ﷺ said: "Whoever prays at night in Ramadan out of faith and in the hope of reward, his previous sins will be forgiven." — Sahih al-Bukhari. This prayer revives the nights of Ramadan and fills them with light, humility, and hope for forgiveness.

The two rak'ahs before Fajr are among the most beloved Sunnah prayers. The Prophet ﷺ said: "The two rak'ahs before Fajr are better than this world and all it contains." — Sahih Muslim. This shows their immense value and reminds us not to neglect them, even when we are busy or tired.

Likewise, praying four rak'ahs before Zuhr and two after it was a consistent practice of the Prophet ﷺ. He maintained these Sunnah prayers regularly, teaching the Ummah the importance of surrounding obligatory acts with voluntary devotion to perfect and beautify them.

In addition, two rak'ahs after Maghrib and two after 'Isha are recommended Sunnah prayers. These simple yet powerful acts increase one's closeness to Allah and help strengthen spiritual discipline throughout the day and night.

During Ramadan, these voluntary prayers may be combined within the Tarawih prayers for ease and continuity. This flexibility allows believers to maintain consistency in worship while balancing their daily responsibilities, without feeling overwhelmed.

Ramadan is a precious opportunity to renew faith and deepen one's relationship with Allah. Through regular Qur'an recitation, abundant dhikr, and increased voluntary prayers, a believer elevates their spiritual state. Let us take advantage of this blessed month, striving for Allah's mercy, forgiveness, and eternal reward.
