Residents of Kiliya community in Dutsinma Local Government Area of Katsina State have been thrown into mourning after a deadly bandit attack that reportedly claimed the lives of at least 16 people. Several other residents are also said to be missing following the tragic incident.

According to local sources, the attack happened on Friday shortly after Muslims had completed Juma'at prayers. Many residents were gathered together, relaxing and discussing in the joyful atmosphere of the Eid-el-Kabir (Sallah) celebration when the attackers arrived.

One resident who witnessed the incident said he first noticed two armed bandits riding on a motorcycle. Their appearance immediately caused panic among villagers, who began running for safety.

The witness explained that the bandits ordered people not to run. However, the attackers later moved toward a mechanic's house and suddenly opened fire on residents and passersby without warning.

Recounting his experience, the resident said he had just bought a bowl of local drink from a young vendor when the gunmen arrived. He and the boy quickly escaped into a nearby house and hid while gunshots and screams echoed throughout the community.

After the shooting stopped, they came out of hiding and discovered several lifeless bodies lying on the ground. The witness said about 16 people were killed in the attack, including some of his relatives, while many others remain unaccounted for.
