Sad news has emerged from Saudi Arabia as two female pilgrims from Sokoto State lost their lives after successfully completing the 2026 Hajj pilgrimage in Makkah. The incident happened shortly after the Hajj rites were concluded.

The deceased pilgrims were identified as Ladi Umar from Bodinga Local Government Area and Hadiza Umar from Yabo Local Government Area. Their deaths were confirmed by the Deputy Amirul Hajj and Grand Khadi of Sokoto State, Alhaji Sodangi Acida.

According to the statement, two other female pilgrims who were involved in the same accident are currently receiving medical treatment in a Saudi hospital. One of them suffered a fracture, while the other is being treated for a dislocated arm.

Alhaji Sodangi Acida expressed the condolences of the Sokoto State Government to the families of the deceased. He prayed that Allah forgives their shortcomings and grants them Aljannatul Firdaus, the highest level of Paradise.

He also announced that the first batch of Sokoto pilgrims will begin returning to Nigeria on June 14, 2026. The return journey will follow the "first to arrive, first to depart" arrangement approved for the pilgrims.

Meanwhile, the Permanent Secretary of the Sokoto State Pilgrims Welfare Agency, Alhaji Ibrahim Umar JJ, thanked Governor Ahmad Aliyu for supporting the welfare of pilgrims throughout the Hajj exercise. He also appreciated the state delegation, agency staff, and pilgrims for their cooperation, which helped ensure a successful 2026 Hajj operation.
