A respected Islamic cleric from Kebbi State, Alhaji Muhammad Maibarga, has died while being held captive by bandits. The cleric, who was a member of Jama'atu Izalatil Bid'ah wa Ikamatis-Sunnah (JIBWIS), was kidnapped alongside a former chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Koko/Besse Local Government Area.

According to reports, the victims were abducted by armed bandits who later demanded money for their release. Family members and friends had been making efforts to secure the cleric's freedom by trying to meet the demands of the kidnappers.

Before his death was confirmed, a video allegedly released by the abductors showed Alhaji Maibarga in a weak and worsening health condition. The footage raised concerns among relatives and members of the community about his safety and well-being.

The death of the cleric was confirmed by the Kebbi State Police Command through its Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman. He stated that the police were aware of reports concerning the victim's deteriorating health and eventual death while in captivity.

A family friend, Usman Aliyu, revealed that efforts to secure the cleric's release were still ongoing when the tragic news reached the family. He explained that relatives were struggling to raise the money demanded by the abductors before his condition worsened.

The incident has left family members, friends, and community leaders in deep sorrow. Many have expressed sadness over the loss of the respected cleric and called for stronger efforts to address the growing insecurity and kidnapping challenges affecting parts of the country.
