Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has criticized the United States over its approach to Iran, accusing Washington of seeking to advance its interests through the region's waterways while simultaneously using them to exert pressure on Tehran.

Pezeshkian made the remarks during his address at the United Nations General Assembly, as tensions between Iran and the United States continue to draw international attention.

His comments came a day after US President Donald Trump told the United Nations that he was considering whether to "annihilate" Iran. Trump also indicated that renewed discussions between US and Iranian negotiators had taken place.

Pezeshkian did not directly address the reported negotiations during his UN speech. Instead, he emphasized Iran's resistance to American pressure and outlined Tehran's position on the ongoing confrontation.

The continuing confrontation between Washington and Tehran is also raising concerns about regional security and the global economy. Particular attention remains focused on the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial waterway for international oil and fuel shipments.

As tensions persist, developments involving Iran, the United States and the Strait of Hormuz are being closely watched by governments and energy markets worldwide. Any major disruption around the strategic waterway could have wider consequences for regional stability and global energy supplies.
