Russia Condemns Killing Of Gaddafi’s Son, Demands Full Investigation

Russia has strongly condemned the killing of Seif Al-Islam Qaddafi, the son of former Libyan leader Muammar Qaddafi, describing the incident as a serious crime that must not go unpunished. The Russian government called for a comprehensive and transparent investigation to uncover the truth behind the assassination and ensure those responsible are held accountable.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova expressed Moscow's firm position on the matter. She emphasized that such acts of violence undermine stability and justice, adding that Russia expects a thorough probe into the circumstances surrounding Seif Al-Islam's death and the swift prosecution of the perpetrators.

According to a lawyer who represented Seif Al-Islam, the former Libyan leader's son was killed when four unidentified attackers stormed his residence on Tuesday. The sudden and violent nature of the attack has raised serious concerns about security conditions and political tensions within Libya.

Libyan prosecutors confirmed that an official investigation is underway. Forensic experts were dispatched to the city of Zintan in northwestern Libya, where Seif Al-Islam was shot dead, to gather evidence and determine the exact sequence of events that led to his killing.

Seif Al-Islam Qaddafi, aged 53, was long viewed by some supporters as a potential political successor to his father, who was overthrown and killed in 2011 following a NATO-led military intervention. His name remained influential in Libya's complex political landscape.

In 2021, Libyan authorities issued an arrest warrant against him over alleged links to the Russian Wagner mercenary group, according to reports. Although Wagner has since been disbanded and replaced by the state-backed Africa Corps, Seif Al-Islam was widely believed to have maintained close ties with Russia, adding international significance to his death.
