UK Media Bias Against Muslims and Islam Report 2025

A new report released in London has revealed that many news stories about Muslims in the United Kingdom contain some level of bias. The report, published by the Centre for Media Monitoring, found that almost half of all news articles published in 2025 that mentioned Muslims or Islam showed some form of unfair or negative portrayal.

The organization studied 40,913 news articles from 30 major UK news outlets. According to the research, around 20,000 articles contained bias. The study aimed to understand how Muslims and Islam are represented in the media and how these portrayals influence public opinion.

One of the most concerning findings was that about 70 percent of the stories linked Muslims to negative topics or behaviors. Although not every article was directly biased, the overall pattern showed a strong focus on negative narratives. Researchers explained that these patterns can shape how the public views Muslim communities.

The report also discovered several common problems in media coverage. About 44 percent of the articles lacked important context, 17 percent used broad generalizations, and 13 percent included incorrect or misleading information. According to the researchers, these issues create what they described as an "information integrity crisis" in the way Muslims are reported in the news.

The study also identified specific news organizations where bias appeared more frequently. Media outlets such as GB News, The Spectator, The Daily Telegraph, Daily Mail, and The Sun were reported to have higher levels of biased coverage about Muslims.

On the other hand, outlets such as BBC and some other broadcasters showed the lowest levels of bias in the research. The report also noted that discrimination against Muslims in the UK appears to be increasing, with official data showing that religious hate crimes against Muslims rose by 19 percent by March 2025 compared to the previous year.
