The men's national football team of Iran national football team is still expected to take part in the upcoming FIFA World Cup despite growing security concerns related to tensions in the Middle East. Officials from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) confirmed that there has been no official notice from Iran suggesting that the team will withdraw from the tournament.

The next World Cup will be jointly hosted by United States, Canada, and Mexico. However, comments from Donald Trump recently raised concerns about the safety of the Iranian team if they travel to North America for the competition. Trump suggested that the players' lives and safety might be at risk if they attend the global tournament.

These concerns come after rising tensions following a conflict triggered by joint military strikes carried out by the United States and Israel against Iran on February 28. The situation has caused international discussions about whether the political crisis could affect Iran's participation in international sporting events.

Despite the worries, AFC General Secretary Windsor Paul John said there has been no official confirmation that Iran will miss the tournament. Speaking to journalists at the AFC headquarters in Kuala Lumpur, he explained that the organization is monitoring the situation closely but currently expects the Iranian team to compete as planned.

Windsor also expressed hope that the issues surrounding Iran's participation will be resolved soon. He described Iran as a strong football nation and said the AFC would like to see the team play in the tournament. According to him, unless there is an official announcement of withdrawal, Iran remains part of the expected lineup for the World Cup.

Meanwhile, a separate issue involving members of Iran women's national football team has also drawn attention. Some members of the delegation who traveled to Australia for the AFC Women's Asian Cup reportedly sought asylum after controversy over refusing to sing the national anthem. While some later withdrew their requests, a few individuals are still considering staying abroad. AFC officials said the organization will respect and support whatever decision the players ultimately make.
