At least five people, including women and a child, died in a suicide car bombing near a police station in northwestern Pakistan on Thursday night. Several others were injured, officials confirmed on Friday.

The attack took place in the Domel administrative subdivision of Bannu District in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. The bomber tried to drive an explosives-laden vehicle directly into the police station, causing a massive explosion.

Police spokesperson Asif Hassan said security forces managed to shoot the attacker before he reached the compound. However, the car still exploded, leading to casualties among civilians nearby.

Among the dead were three women, one child, and one man. In addition, five police officers and several other civilians suffered injuries in the blast.

The powerful explosion also damaged at least two homes close to the police station. The injured were quickly taken to a local hospital for emergency care.

Authorities, including rescue teams and security forces, sealed off the area to control the situation. Investigations into the attack are ongoing to determine who was responsible.
