Catholic Priest Condemns Nigeria Over Bounty Threat, Justice Failures

A Catholic priest has expressed outrage after an Imam placed a bounty on the head of a pastor he claims insulted Prophet Muhammad.

The Imam initially offered ₦1 million, later increasing it to ₦2 million, and reportedly boasted about remaining free after issuing the threat.

Reacting, Catholic priest Kelvin Ugwu referenced the killing of Deborah Samuel, who was attacked by classmates over alleged blasphemy. He noted that despite arrests, several lawyers appeared in court to defend the suspects, and the case has since faded from public attention.

He added that the Imam who made a similar life-threatening statement is still walking free, raising concerns about justice and accountability.

Fr. Ugwu criticized the situation, pointing to what he sees as a troubling pattern of unresolved violence and lack of consequences for such actions in Nigeria.
