Israel Vows Strong Response After Deadly Lebanon Border Attack

Israeli troops will remain in southern Lebanon for as long as necessary, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced after an attack that killed four Israeli soldiers near the border region.

Netanyahu described the attack as a serious violation of the ceasefire agreement and warned that Israel would make the Iran-backed Hezbollah group pay a heavy price. He stressed that Israel would not tolerate attacks against its soldiers or territory.

According to the Israeli military, the incident occurred shortly after midnight in the southern Lebanese village of Kfar Tebnit. A suspected drone strike or anti-tank missile reportedly hit an armored military vehicle, resulting in multiple casualties.

Among those killed was Lieutenant-Colonel Dor Gedalia Ben Simhon, who served as the commander of the 52nd Armored Battalion of the 401st Brigade. His death has been described as a significant loss to the Israeli military.

Following the attack, Netanyahu said he had instructed the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) to respond forcefully. Israeli officials maintain that security operations in southern Lebanon are necessary to protect Israeli communities near the border.

Defense Minister Israel Katz also reaffirmed that Israeli forces would continue operating within the designated security zone in southern Lebanon. He warned that any future attacks would be met with a strong military response as Israel seeks to prevent further threats from across the border.
