Six Arrested After Anti-Muslim Protest Outside New York Mayor Residence

Tensions rose in New York City after a small group of far-right protesters held an anti-Muslim rally outside the mayor's official residence. The protest happened near Gracie Mansion on Saturday and quickly attracted attention from counter-protesters and police officers.

Around 20 demonstrators reportedly linked to far-right activist Jake Lang gathered near the residence to express anti-Muslim views. At the same time, about 120 people assembled nearby to oppose the protest and show support for the Muslim community.

According to Jessica Tisch, the situation became tense when one of the anti-Muslim protesters allegedly used pepper spray during the confrontation. This action caused confusion and anger among the crowd and forced police officers to intervene quickly.

Officers from the New York Police Department moved in to control the situation and prevent further violence. Several people were arrested for different offenses, including disorderly conduct and blocking traffic on nearby roads.

Police confirmed that six individuals were taken into custody during the incident. Among those arrested were protesters from both sides, including two people from the counter-protest group who were also accused of disturbing public order.

Meanwhile, a spokesman for the mayor, Joe Calvello, said the mayor and his wife were safe during the protest. He strongly criticized Lang and described him as a "vile white supremacist," condemning the anti-Muslim rally and the hate messages expressed during the demonstration.
