Sheikh Abduljabbar Appeals Over Alleged Plan Destroy Prison Case Files

Sheikh Abduljabbar Nasir Kabara, an Islamic cleric currently detained at the Kuje Medium Security Custodial Centre in Abuja, has raised serious concerns about the safety of important documents related to his legal case. He sent an urgent message to the President of the Court of Appeal of Nigeria, asking the court to intervene quickly.

In a six-page letter dated March 13, 2026, the cleric said he believes there is a plan that could affect his ongoing appeal. According to him, the proposal by the Kano State Government to demolish the old prison facility may lead to the destruction of critical documents connected to his case.

Abduljabbar explained that the authorities intend to convert the Kurmawa Prison into a museum. While the project is presented as a historical development, the cleric fears it could result in the loss of materials needed for his legal appeal.

He stated in the letter that many of his personal legal files and documents are still kept in his former prison cell at Kurmawa Prison in Kano. These documents, he said, are important evidence that may be needed by the court as his appeal process continues.

Because of this situation, Abduljabbar urged the Court of Appeal to act quickly to ensure that the documents are preserved. He warned that if the prison is demolished before the files are secured, it could seriously affect the fairness of his appeal.

The cleric therefore asked the court authorities to investigate the matter and take steps to protect the documents. According to him, safeguarding these records is necessary to guarantee justice and allow his appeal to be properly heard.
