The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has inaugurated its 2026 Hajj Ulama Team and deployed 120 respected Islamic scholars across the country. Their main duty is to improve pilgrims' education, spiritual preparation, and religious guidance before and during the Hajj exercise.

This was made known in a statement released by the Information and Publications Division of the Commission and signed by Fatima Sanda Usara. The announcement followed a strategic meeting held on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at the Conference Hall of Hajj House in Abuja.

The meeting gathered 120 well-known Islamic clerics from different parts of Nigeria. Some of the scholars present included Professor Mansur Ibrahim Sokoto, Sheikh Bala Lau, Sheikh Abdulmuhyi Nasir representing Sheikh Sani Yahaya Jingir, Sheikh Abdulrahman Olanrewaju Ahmed, Sheikh Nasir Adam, Sheikh Muhammad Kabir Haruna Gombe, Sheikh Usman Usman Dahiru Bauchi, and Dr Isa Akindele Solahuddeen.

Speaking during the inauguration, NAHCON Chairman, Ambassador Ismail Yusuf Abba, said the Commission is committed to improving pilgrims' education and strengthening their spiritual readiness for the 2026 Hajj. He explained that the scholars will help provide proper orientation and sensitisation programmes in different languages before departure and throughout the pilgrimage.

He also instructed the Ulama team to properly guide pilgrims on the important rites and principles of Hajj so they can clearly understand what is required for a valid and accepted pilgrimage. He stressed the need for continuous guidance and quick responses to pilgrims' questions, especially on matters that may affect the validity of their Hajj.

The Commission also directed the scholars to organise special prayer sessions at important locations during Hajj, especially at Arafat, for Nigeria's leaders, peace, unity, security, and economic growth. The scholars also highlighted the importance of mental readiness, patience, sincerity, unity, and full devotion to Allah, describing Hajj as a life-changing act of worship.
