A newly formed political action committee has entered the US political landscape ahead of the 2026 midterm elections, aiming to support candidates who advocate for Palestinian human rights. The organisation, known as the Peace, Accountability, and Leadership PAC (PAL PAC), has officially launched and announced its first endorsements.

PAL PAC stated that it is exclusively committed to backing candidates who openly support Palestinian rights and push for greater accountability in US foreign policy. The group positions itself as part of a growing movement seeking to reshape the national conversation around Palestine in Washington.

As part of its debut, the PAC endorsed four Democratic members of the US House of Representatives. The lawmakers include Summer Lee of Pennsylvania, Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, Delia Ramirez of Illinois, and Rashida Tlaib of Michigan. All four have previously expressed strong positions in support of Palestinian human rights.

Margaret DeReus, the executive director of PAL PAC, described the current period as a transformative political moment. She argued that the 2026 election cycle presents a rare and unprecedented opportunity to influence US policy discussions regarding Palestine.

According to DeReus, the organisation was founded with a clear objective: to challenge what it describes as Israel's ongoing human rights violations against Palestinians and to address US support for Israeli policies. She emphasised the need to end what the group views as complicity in alleged apartheid practices, land seizures, and violence against Palestinians.

The launch of PAL PAC comes during heightened scrutiny of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC). Critics have questioned AIPAC's significant political spending and its role in supporting pro-Israel candidates during US election cycles.

With the 2026 midterms approaching, PAL PAC's emergence signals a potentially shifting dynamic within American politics. The group hopes its involvement will reshape the political calculus surrounding Palestine and establish what it calls a new foundation for US engagement on the issue.
