Queensley Seghosime Becomes ICAN President, Inspires Nigerian Accountants Nationwide

Hajia Queensley Sofuratu Seghosime has officially been sworn in as the 62nd President and Chairman of Council of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN). The investiture ceremony took place on June 2, 2026, at the ICAN Head Office in Victoria Island, Lagos. Her swearing-in marks the beginning of a new leadership era for Nigeria's leading professional accounting body.

Seghosime was announced as ICAN President-elect in April 2026 and became only the fourth woman to hold the prestigious position since the institute was founded in 1965. She succeeded Mallam Haruna N. Yahaya, the immediate past President. Her appointment has been widely praised as a major achievement for gender inclusiveness and professional excellence in the accounting profession.

With more than forty years of experience, Seghosime has built a strong reputation in accounting, taxation, auditing, corporate governance, and advisory services. She is known for promoting integrity, transparency, and ethical leadership. Her vast knowledge and professional achievements are expected to strengthen ICAN's role in Nigeria and beyond.

Her educational journey began at Auchi Polytechnic, where she obtained a Higher National Diploma in Business Administration. She later earned a Bachelor's degree in Accounting and Finance from the University of Derby in the United Kingdom. She also obtained a Master's degree in Accounting and Finance as well as an MBA from Enugu State University, further enhancing her professional expertise.

Throughout her career, Seghosime has worked with respected organizations in both the public and private sectors. She started her professional career with BDO Balogun Badejo & Co. before joining the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS). She currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer of Quebban Professional Services, where she provides strategic advice on governance, taxation, compliance, and financial management.

As the new ICAN President, Seghosime is expected to focus on improving professional standards, promoting ethical practices, and creating more opportunities for young accountants. Many industry observers believe her leadership will help strengthen transparency, accountability, and investor confidence in Nigeria's economy.
