The Arab League on Tuesday strongly condemned the burning of a Palestinian mosque by Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank. The incident took place in the village of Tell, located near Nablus, drawing widespread criticism and concern across the region.

According to reports, settlers attacked the Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq Mosque early Monday morning. They spray-painted offensive and hateful slogans on the mosque's walls before setting parts of the building on fire, causing significant damage.

The fire left the interior of the mosque covered in thick black smoke and soot. Worshippers in the area expressed shock and sadness over the attack, describing it as a violation of a sacred space meant for peace and prayer.

In a statement carried by Wafa, the Arab League warned that targeting religious sanctities represents a serious and dangerous escalation. It said such actions promote hate speech and violence, while also weakening international efforts to achieve peace and long-term stability.

The organization called on the United Nations to take concrete and immediate steps to prevent repeated assaults on religious sites. It also urged stronger measures to guarantee the protection of places of worship across the occupied territories.

Meanwhile, the Palestinian Authority's Ministry of Religious Affairs reported that 45 mosques in the West Bank were vandalized or attacked by settlers over the past year. The ministry described these incidents as part of a troubling pattern of aggression against religious institutions.

The latest attack occurred as Muslims began observing the holy month of Ramadan. During this period, Israeli authorities have increased security measures in the West Bank and around Jerusalem, restricting entry to Al-Aqsa Mosque to children under 12, men over 55, and women over 50.
