The Supreme Council for Shariah in Nigeria has officially spoken out regarding serious accusations made against Senator Shehu Buba Umar. The lawmaker, who represents Bauchi South, faces renewed allegations connecting him to regional banditry and terrorist networks. In response, the council is asking national security agencies to step in and clear the air to maintain public trust.

To bring clarity to the situation, the group specifically called upon the National Security Adviser and the Department of State Services. They want these high-level authorities to publicly explain the exact context of their past security discussions with the senator. The council believes that providing this context will help separate legitimate government work from unfounded rumors.

The organization noted that it previously interacted with the lawmaker while he served as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on National Security and Intelligence. During that period, officials were exploring non-military solutions to reduce violence alongside traditional security forces. According to the council, those talks were fully legitimate efforts intended to support national safety and peace initiatives.

Beyond asking for clarification, the council is demanding a swift, thorough, and independent investigation into the claims. They urged authorities to make the official findings public, as far as national security laws allow. This steps aims to ensure that any true threats are exposed while preventing unsubstantiated claims from being used as political weapons.

The group strongly warned against using serious security matters for personal smear campaigns or political witch-hunts. They emphasized that violent crimes like terrorism, kidnapping, and murder can never be justified by politics, ethnicity, or religion. Keeping the focus on facts is crucial for the nation as it works to defeat violent criminal groups.

Ultimately, the council stressed that resolving these allegations with total transparency is vital for the entire country. Clearing up the controversy will allow citizens to learn the truth and help security agencies stay focused on ending banditry. By handling the case properly, the government can protect both public safety and the integrity of its institutions.
