Saudi Arabia is increasing its focus on the mining industry as part of its plan to change and strengthen the country's economy. The effort is connected to the national development program called Saudi Vision 2030. The goal of this plan is to reduce the country's heavy dependence on oil and build new sources of income.

Experts say Saudi Arabia has huge mineral resources worth about $2.5 trillion. Because of this large wealth, the government plans to make mining the third major pillar of the national economy, alongside oil and gas industries. This means mining could soon become one of the most important sectors supporting economic growth in the Kingdom.

The country is rich in many important minerals. According to reports, more than 45 different minerals have been identified in Saudi Arabia. These include valuable resources such as gold, copper, and uranium, which are widely used in global industries like electronics, energy production, and manufacturing.

Economists believe the mining sector can also help Saudi Arabia play a major role in the global supply chain. By expanding mineral extraction, processing facilities, and transportation systems, the country could supply important materials needed for modern technologies and clean energy industries.

To support the sector's growth, the government has introduced several reforms. These include simplified mining regulations, digital licensing systems, specialized mining services, and new railway and transport links to mining regions. These improvements are designed to attract investors and make mining projects faster and easier to develop.

Under Saudi Vision 2030, Saudi Arabia hopes the mining industry will contribute 240 billion Saudi riyals (about $63 billion) to the economy by 2030. The plan also aims to create 200,000 direct and indirect jobs and attract $27 billion in investment, while large geological surveys are currently being carried out across the Arabian Shield to discover even more mineral resources.
