A Northern Islamic cleric has criticised Bola Ahmed Tinubu over his brief condolence visit to Plateau State after the killing of residents in Jos. The cleric said the President's actions during the visit showed a lack of sympathy for grieving families and people affected by the tragic incident. He expressed disappointment that the visit was short and did not fully address the suffering of the victims and their communities.

During a Friday sermon, the cleric explained that the President allegedly complained about the lack of electricity at Yakubu Gowon Airport and said he would not stay longer than 10 minutes before flying back to Lagos. According to him, this statement embarrassed some stakeholders in Plateau State, who reportedly tried to appeal to the President to show more patience and understanding during the condolence visit.

The cleric further stated that repeatedly mentioning electricity and travel plans for Easter made it look like personal comfort was more important than the national tragedy. He argued that such a brief visit did not reflect the seriousness of the killings or the emotional pain of families who lost their loved ones in the attack. He stressed that leaders should show compassion and spend time listening to the people during such difficult moments.

He also criticised political leaders in the North, including Simon Lalong and Jonah Jang, urging them to focus more on protecting citizens and addressing insecurity in the region. The cleric questioned why Northern Nigerians should continue to give political support when insecurity and violence are still affecting many communities.

The cleric mentioned Umar Abdullahi Ganduje while discussing alleged political tensions and meetings at the Presidential Villa. He emphasised that political power comes from Allah and warned leaders not to misuse their authority or take public support for granted. He encouraged citizens to think carefully about leadership and accountability.

The visit of President Tinubu to Plateau State has continued to generate reactions across Nigeria. The President met victims and families at Yakubu Gowon Airport instead of visiting affected communities, and the visit reportedly lasted only about 10 minutes. Critics, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, described the visit as insensitive, while many Nigerians called for more compassionate and direct engagement with victims of the Jos attack.
