Egypt has officially launched its first-ever national Startup Charter, pledging $1 billion in funding along with supportive policies. The initiative is designed to stimulate innovation, create jobs, and boost Egypt's overall economic development over the next several years.

The charter aims to support up to 5,000 startups, generating approximately 500,000 direct and indirect jobs. By providing structured assistance, it seeks to create a robust entrepreneurial ecosystem and strengthen Egypt's position as a regional innovation hub.

A key component of the program is encouraging startups to expand internationally. This global focus will help Egyptian startups gain exposure, access new markets, and attract foreign investment, ultimately fostering sustainable business growth.

The initiative also prioritizes talent development to reduce brain drain. By nurturing local entrepreneurs and technical experts, Egypt hopes to retain skilled professionals and ensure a consistent pipeline of innovative leaders for its startups.

The charter introduces a unified definition of startups, emphasizing rapid growth, flexibility, and innovation. This allows new companies to access certifications, incentives, and support from SME authorities, creating a clearer framework for success and accountability.

Over the next five years, the program will coordinate government and private funding to mobilize $1 billion, potentially increasing impact fourfold through partnerships and investments. Its broader goals include connecting sector-specific challenges with innovative solutions and promoting venture capital engagement.

The launch, held at the Grand Egyptian Museum, was attended by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, Minister Rania Al-Mashat, and key stakeholders. This charter positions Egypt to strengthen its startup ecosystem, attract investment, and significantly drive job creation and economic growth.
