Sad news has emerged from Saudi Arabia as two female pilgrims from Sokoto State lost their lives after successfully completing the 2026 Hajj pilgrimage in Makkah. The tragic incident occurred shortly after the completion of the sacred Hajj rites.

The deceased pilgrims were identified as Ladi Umar from Bodinga Local Government Area and Hadiza Umar from Yabo Local Government Area. Their deaths were confirmed by the Deputy Amirul Hajj and Grand Khadi of Sokoto State, Alhaji Sodangi Acida.

According to officials, two other female pilgrims involved in the same accident are currently receiving treatment at a hospital in Saudi Arabia. One of the victims suffered a fracture, while the other is being treated for a dislocated arm.

Alhaji Sodangi Acida conveyed the condolences of the Sokoto State Government to the bereaved families. He prayed that Allah forgives the shortcomings of the deceased and grants them Aljannatul Firdaus.

He further announced that the first batch of Sokoto pilgrims would begin their return journey to Nigeria on June 14, 2026. The return flights are scheduled to operate under the "first to arrive, first to depart" policy.

Meanwhile, the Permanent Secretary of the Sokoto State Pilgrims Welfare Agency, Alhaji Ibrahim Umar JJ, expressed appreciation to Governor Ahmad Aliyu for his support toward the welfare of Sokoto pilgrims throughout the Hajj exercise. He also commended members of the state delegation, agency staff, and pilgrims for their cooperation, which contributed to the successful completion of the 2026 Hajj operation.
